Last name, middle name, date of birth, address, fingerprints, dental records, etc. We don't have these in game, so two characters with the same name would be very hard to distinguish. As others have pointed out, this could cause issues with emailing a character, inviting them to a party or a squad, and so on.
Vermillion is a variation of red, but sounds more interesting. All in all, that seemed a very fitting name for a sylvari elementalist. Myalla: Random name I picked for my female asura guardian alt (tried other similar names but they were taken).

I started using unique names for games. "Leaf Me Aloe" for Sylvari is probably taken. Tepuiense, Angustifolium, and Bonplandianum are probably not. Unique is the way to go, yes.
