What is a DPF and does your car have one? If you own a diesel car, chances are it has a DPF. It's a topic we get lots of questions about on a regular basis and DPF problems can cause a real headache. What is a DPF? A diesel particulate filter (or DPF for short) is part of a diesel car's exhaust system that's designed to filter out harmful soot.
May 18, 2012. #1. Hey Guys I could use some expert help from the group. I have a 2010 VW Jetta TDI and I keep getting a check engine light every 20,000 miles which turns out to be an issue with the DPF filter. I have 81,000 miles on the car and so far I have had 4 failures (4 new DPF Filters). The most recent of which I am going through right now. The distance between regens can vary greatly on driving conditions and engine health, anything between 150-400 miles is probably normal. There should be two soot values, calculated and measured. It's normal from them to differ as I don't believe calculated takes into account passive regeneration. They are generally less important assuming they
This usually means that the DPF is clogged. However, it can also indicate an electronic problem. Good to know, not every car has a particulate filter light. If your car does not have a particulate filter light, the engine management light will illuminate if there is a clogged diesel particulate filter. You can also notice how the car drives.

VW paid 1/2 cost, the second, one installed by the dealer, was cracked just under 35K. This time I bought a used DPF from one of the member on this forum and new LP EGR filter and installed it in my garage. Adjusted the ash load via VCDS as the used dpf had 60K on it.
My detailed results have been posted on another forum. Everything has been confirmed with two VW master technicians. Firstly, the golf 7 does not passively regen. The exhaust doesn't even reach the magic 350C under normal driving. The way that the car deals with soot is to collect it in the dpf and then to actively burn it off when the dpf is
